NORTHERN LIGHTS GUIDE COURSE
If you are passionate about the Aurora Borealis and dream of becoming a Northern Lights guide, then this course is for you! Whether you are an experienced guide, or are new to guiding, you will be sure to learn a great deal on this Northern Lights Guide Course which has been especially designed for guides working in Northern Norway.
The course is taught by a number of local experts including professional guides, academics, and photographers. Within this course you will learn all the specific technical skills to lead a successful, safe and sustainable northern lights tour. You will also have a night photography workshop to learn how to capture the dancing lady on your lens as well as the basics of editing. The course follows the principals of the Adventure Travel Guide Standard (ATGS) compiled by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and includes the following modules:
WHO? The course content is delivered by locals from Tromsø who are specilists in their fields, including experienced guides, scientists, and professional photographers.
HOW? With limited number of participants, learning will be interactive and personal. The first 3 days are held indoors and incude presentations, handouts and practical excersises. The final 2 sessions are held under the Arctic sky and are focused on the practical aspects of Northern Lights Guiding. The course takes place in English.
WHERE? The theoretical part of the course takes place near Tromsø city centre in a spacious setting. The practical part of the course will take place under the night sky. Live guided tour (transport included).
WHEN? The course runs during 5 days from 9th – 16th September. Evaluation and delivery of the assignments is on the 16th September.
WHAT? Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be given a diploma for course completion.
**Please note that you need to have access to a camera during the photo workshop.
*In order to participate in this course you need to have successfully completed the Adventure Guide Course, which covers many topics which will be put into practice on the Northern Lights Course.
Bear in mind...
- 10% discount for students. Student ID must be presented. - We need a minimum of 10 course participants to run the course. - The course schedule includes both day time and evening/night classes. The schedule will sent out via email. - The course will take place inddors and outside, so bring warm clothing! - It is recommended to bring a laptop to class in order to take notes and participate in online activities. - You will need your own camera to participate in the Night Photography Module of the course. - You must have 80% attendance and pass a practical and theoretical exam in order to receive the course completion diploma.
