About our tour
Nestled between Tromsø island and the vast Norwegian sea lies Norway’s 5th largest island, Kvaløya. This magnificent island really has it all, from towering mountain peaks, endless fjords, quaint fishing villages, and unique Arctic wildlife.
The journey starts here
We start our journey when we pick you up from your hotel in a Mercedes V-Class where you will meet your host for the day.
From Fjords to Coast
Our first stop is at Northern Norway’s most stunning fjord. Pointing due West, the view of rugged snow-capped peaks leading into the sea never gets old.
Continue your drive on Kvaløya island through a remote valley until you meet the coast where colourful fishing huts are dotted along the coastline.
Arctic Wildlife
Keep your eyes open from reindeer along the way. Kvaløya is home to 2 large reindeer herds which roam freely in the summer and your guide will tell you about the fascinating Sami culture along the route.
But that’s not all the Arctic wildlife you may see, migratory sea birds, seals, moose, harbour porpoises, and white-tailed eagles can also be spotted in on island.
Short hike for breath-taking views
Before exploring the archipelago of Sommarøy, your host will take you on a short, but extremely rewarding hike with spectacular views. Once you see the countless islands, white sandy beaches, and stunning turquoise waters you will soon understand why the island get the nickname “summer islands” from.
Summer Islands
At Sommarøy your host will take you to a remote beach where you may be tempted to dip your feet the Caribbean-like water and feel the fresh Arctic water between your toes. After that, have a delicious local lunch on Sommarøy with post-card perfect views over the islands.
After lunch, continue your round-trip on “whale island” along the remote Southern coastline passing traditional local farms. Stop once more to marvel at the large number of seabirds on the beaches that visit every year to mate. Look in the water too, you may see a porpoise or a seal!
Arctic Memories
Return to Tromsø in the afternoon fulfilled by a day of stunning Arctic scenery, tasty local food, knowledge about local culture and history, and hopefully some new friendships. Your hosts will drop you off at your hotel in the city centre and will send you your digital photo album of Arctic memories.
